The Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board (MDSVPTB) was established within the Department of Health and Human Services in 1978 by state legislation that created a Governor-appointed Board responsible for focusing state activity on domestic violence. The Board administers state and federal funding for domestic violence shelters and advocacy services, develops and recommends policy, and develops and provides technical assistance and training.
The seven-member Board represents a cross-section of professions concerned with the crime of domestic violence. Members are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Staff provided by the Department of Human Services assists the Board in carrying out their legislative charge.

Domestic Violence Shelter and Support Services Grant
Services provided under contracts with 45 nonprofit domestic violence programs include: emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis hotlines, supportive counseling, and support services. Support services include transportation, information, referral and advocacy in obtaining emergency health care, legal information, financial assistance, permanent housing, child care, and children's services.
STOP Violence Against Women Grants
The goal of the federal STOP Violence Against Women program is to strengthen local criminal justice system responses by drawing on the experience of all players in the system and to develop a comprehensive set of strategies to deal with the problems of violent crimes against women including domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking.
Transitional Supportive Housing is safe, decent, transitional supportive housing coupled with supportive services as needed to assist domestic violence survivors and their dependent children. Housing shall be provided seven days per week, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
Sexual Assault Comprehensive Services Grants
Funding for Sexual Assault Comprehensive Services is intended to address the needs of survivors of sexual assault (age 12 and older), enhance system coordination to better respond to survivors and perpetrators, as well as increase the awareness of the general population about the issue of sexual assault.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Grants
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Grants are funded through crime victim fees and support comprehensive sexual assault nurse examiner programs. |
